Men's Referral Service
One of our most prominent programs is the Men's Referral Service, which provides a free, confidential and anonymous telephone counselling service for:
- men who might be using violent and controlling behaviour towards a partner or family member
- women wishing to find information about male family violence for their partners or for themselves
- friends, family or colleagues of people who are either using or experiencing family violence
- professionals wishing to support a male or female client
The telephone counselling service has been operating since 1993 and since that time has become a valued and highly regarded part of the Victorian family violence system. More recently, the Men’s Referral Service has also developed a small community education service, providing speakers for community groups who wish to hear about male family violence prevention.
The Men’s Referral Service is funded by Victoria's Department of Human Services. The telephone counselling lines and community education service are staffed by specially trained male volunteers.
